Getting settled

Hello -

Well I am getting settled in and am relieved because my bag has been found. Sending out a big Amen on that one. Well as you may know, Korea is still not importing our beef. So in the meantime, I will still observe the riots and the constantly changing media (here are some websites to check out on what they are saying here concerning the issue: http://english.chosun.com/ and http://joongangdaily.joins.com/). And don't fear, the riots are relatively safe; by no means will I hold a candle and chat, but I am safe.

Monday I had the opportunity to listen to discussions between folks from the US Embassy, guys in from Washington DC (writing a report), and large domestic importers on the situation; it was very informative and gave me a whole new insight to things.

Today I was assigned the projects I will be working on this summer. It will include product labeling, organic/environmental concerns, and traceability. So I am researching these and will soon get started.

Tomorrow should be an exciting day, as we will have tours of COSTCO (yep, same as in the states), E-MART, and some other retail stores; I think this perspective will be cool.

Site-seeing has been minimal; we have a 3-day weekend coming up, as it is their Korean Memorial Day; so hopefully I can get out and about then. I did go by a Buddhist Temple today - it was very ornate and beautiful.

I hope everyone is doing well; and as far as things I am missing from home - chips and salsa, lol. And steak!! Realistically Kel, put together a surprise package for me. Anything from home would be cool.

Have a great day, and keep the comments coming - I enjoyed reading them and hearing about what is happening there.

Missing all of you-

Love,
Lindsay

Poo,
So it's going pretty good so far? Kinda missing the home food? You'll have to ear more broccoli. We're seperating pairs to go to the range and Marks and to Bridgeport. It'll be a busy next 2 weeks. Have you met anyone that could go siteseeing with you? It would be more fun and you'd probably see a lot more. I was looking at you hotel and didn't see you waving from the window. Did you get a room with a good view? Take care kid, and i'll keep in contact soon. LOVE YA, MOM

I will work on getting you some chips and salsa. May take some ingenuity, but I start thinking.

Looks like you are getting into the groove of things over there. I am glad. Check your Lonely Planet book for places that might sell western stuff.
The project sounds very interesting, you might even be there when they decide to let US beef be sold again there. I would try their beef bbq dishes over there, they sound great!
As your Mom says, it would be good if you hooked up with someone who knows the area and knows the lingo to take you to see the sights.
Glad the riots are peaceful, but be careful.
Not much happening in London, its raining which is not too unusual. Also there was an impromptu booze up on the Tubes after an unpopular law was passed banning the drinking of alcohol on public transport.

Anyway. Take care of yourself and enjoy the food, people and culture.
I love you

I'm sure this all seems like a dream at times. Are you having any culture shock? I'd have to say that a lack of beef, for me, would be quite shocking! Your work sounds facinating. Thanks for taking the time to write in detail. Love,
Joni

We are watching the news in the evenings to keep updated with the goings-on.-So GREAT reading your blog--never really even logged on to one before. Take care and best wishes the days ahead!

Slore,
Glad you found your suitcase. Not really a whole lot going on in Kansas. Tyson thinks we will be cutting wheat in 10 -14 days. I can't send you chips & salsa but I can fix you Mexican food (the stuff you like) whenever you get home. Be careful each & ever time you are out and about and don't forget to take lots of pictures. Take care and love you much much (as Colton says), Wendi
